Center for Health, Environment & Justice seeks Childproofing Our Communities Campaign Coordinator
The national Center for Health, Environment & Justice (CHEJ)
is seeking a campaign organizer for the Child Proofing Our Communities Campaign
(CPOC). The campaign works to protect children from exposure to
environmental health hazards through innovative trainings, programs and
organizing assistance. CPOC is focusing on passing comprehensive safe
school siting laws starting with federal national guidelines, and a few
targeted state campaigns. We are looking for a strong campaigner with community
organizing skills to lead a national working group, assist state and local leaders
in their effort to pass policy, and pressure governmental agencies through
innovative tactics and communication. The coordinator is also responsible for
maintaining CHEJ's student environmental leadership program, assisting
communities, building a national network of children's health advocates, and
participating in internal committees to help move the work of CHEJ forward.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate
coalition of communities and statewide groups seeking to pass state
policies on safe school siting. Support local and national CHEJ consumer
campaigns through field, online, and national activities. Hold
community organizing skill trainings as needed. Build relationships with
government, school boards, and other key decision makers on children's health
issues. Motivate and train community leaders to win their children's
environmental health struggles. Effectively utilize online organizing to
mobilize local and national supporters. Maintain the Green Flag Schools
Program, CHEJ's student environmental leadership program. Conduct conference
call presentations on children's health issues and CHEJ campaigns as needed.

opportunities. Strong interpersonal skills and effective organizing and
campaigning skills. Strong critical thinking and time management. Strong
computer and internet research skills.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates bi-lingual in Spanish and English preferred. 2 -3 years
grassroots campaign and organizing experience. Experience with environmental
health issues and/or coordinating coalitions with non-traditional
alliances preferred. Experience with web-based outreach and online
organizing preferred. Experience leading and coordinating skill trainings.
Commitment to grassroots organizing as a means to achieving social and
environmental justice.
